Family name origins & meanings

  • French : from du lin ‘from or of the flax’, hence a topographic name for someone who lived in a place where flax was grown, or, by extension, an occupational name for someone who grew flax or made linen or canvas.
  • Serbian : from the personal name Dula, a pet form of Dušan.
  • Perhaps also a respelling of Irish Doolin.
