  • Southern Italian : from Calabrian and Sicilian cuda ‘tail’, standard Italian coda (see Coda).
  • Polish : nickname from cudo, cuda ‘miracle’, ‘wonder’.
  • German : probably an Americanized spelling of German Kude (see Cude) or Kuder, a metonymic occupational name of Slavic origin for a person who prepared tow (flax or hemp broken down into fibers for spinning).
  • Slovenian (Čuda) : nickname for an odd fellow, from čuden ‘strange’, ‘odd’.
