  • Northwestern Italian : from a Germanic personal name, Haimo, Haimone, formed with haimi ‘home’, ‘world’. This was a popular name in Italy up to and during the Renaissance.
  • Northwestern Italian : occasionally, it may be from a short form of compound name, for example Aimeric, which was much favored in southern France and northwestern Italy in the Middle Ages.
