Family name origins & meanings

  • French : probably a variant of northern French Fauqueur ‘mower’ (standard French Faucheur; see Faucheux).
  • The Fauquier name was introduced to VA by Francis Fauquier (1720–68), an Englishman of Huguenot ancestry, who was appointed lieutenant governor of VA in 1758 and assumed the duties of the governorship when the colony was in the midst of the French and Indian War.
