  • Southern Italian (Sicily) : from Sicilian dialect cacioppu ‘dried tree trunk’, presumably applied as a nickname for someone with wizened skin, or from caciopu ‘short-sighted’ (from Greek kakiopēs, literally ‘having bad eyes’).
