Staff Picks: Our Favorite Children's Books

by: Laurie Mega

Welcome to the first of a series of videos called Staff Picks! Here at FamilyEducation, we love to share our parenting tips, tricks and recommendations. Most of us are parents ourselves, and our kids range from pre-school to college graduate.

This month, we are sharing four of our favorite children's books: The Blue Songbird, Chugga Chugga Choo Choo, and two of our very own Poptropica books.

Poptropica: Mystery of the Map and Poptropica: The Lost Expedition

In these books, written by Jack Chabert and Illustrated by Kory Merritt, four kids discover a magical map that leads them to the uncharted islands of Poptropica. They use their maps to explore the islands and, in the second book in the series, the uncover more strange happenings on the islands.

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo was written by Kevin Lewis and illustrated by Daniel Kirk. It is delightful story of a hard-working steam engine that hauls its freight from dawn to dusk.

The Blue Songbird

The Blue Songbird is written by Vern Kousky and published by Hachette Books. It tells the tale of a little blue bird who is sad because she cannot sing as beautifully as her yellow sisters. Her mother advises her to go out into the world to find her song. In the end, the little bird's journey leads her home and she realizes her song was with her all the time.

We hope you enjoy these books. And if you're looking for more book recommendations, check out our Book Finder.
