Santa's Scene

Follow these simple instructions to make a folksy Santa Claus out of clay pots.

Santa's Scene

Seasonal Sense

You can find snow texture paint in a craft store. It's usually packaged in a small jar and can be applied to a craft with a paintbrush, sponge, or spatula. This stucco-effect paint is perfect for winter projects that require a snow effect. It can also be mixed with colored paints to create a unique textured surface.

Give Santa a “pot belly” by making this cute Santa out of clay pots. This easy-to-make Santa will look great on your mantel, keeping an eye on your Christmas stockings.

Level: Easy

Time involved: Three to four hours, including drying time

Materials:

  • Paintbrushes
  • Red, light pink, gold, and black craft paints
  • Two 4-inch clay pots
  • One 2-inch clay pot
  • One 3-inch clay pot
  • Jar of snow texture paint
  • Glue gun
  • 1/2-inch white pom-pom
  • Clear acrylic finish spray
  1. Paint the outside (except the rims) of the two 4-inch pots and the 2-inch pot red and allow to dry.

  2. Paint the outside (except the rim) of the 3-inch clay pot light pink and allow to dry.

  3. Paint the outside rim of each pot with white snow texture paint and allow to dry.

  4. Using the glue gun, glue the two 4-inch pots together, rim to rim. Glue the top of the 3-inch pot to the bottom of the 4-inch pot. Glue the top of the 2-inch pot to the bottom of the 3-inch pot as shown. Glue the white pom-pom on the bottom of the 2-inch pot. (This is the top of the hat.)

  5. Paint a 1/2-inch band of black around the bottom of the 4-inch pot for boots. Paint four gold dots to form buttons on the middle 4-inch pot. Paint a face on the 3-inch pot by making a red oval for the nose, two small red circles for the cheeks, and two smaller black circles for the eyes. Allow to dry several hours.

  6. Spray your Santa with clear acrylic finish spray and allow to dry.
