Occitan (Vergès) and Catalan (Vergés) : from the
plural of Catalan verger and Occitan vergèr (or also
vergièr) ‘orchard’, topographic name for someone who lived
near an orchard or garden, or occupational name for someone who was
employed in one (see Verge 2 and Verdier 2).
