One family, descended from the Takeda family, lived in the village of Iida in Kai (now Yamanashi prefecture); another family, of Murakami descent, lived in a village by that name in Shinano (now Nagano prefecture). Both families are of the Minamoto clan. The name is also found on Okinawa Island.
