  • Dutch : nickname for a trickster, from Old French barat, Middle Dutch baraet, beraet ‘deceit’, ‘fraud’, ‘ruse’.
  • Norwegian : variant of Braaten or Bratt.
  • Albert Andriessen Bradt (1607–1686), a settler in Rensselaerswijck on the upper Hudson, was of Norwegian origin, from Fredrikstad, Norway. He was also known as de Norrman ‘the Norwegian’. See <xref>Norman</xref>.
