Description of technique:
Teaching children to communicate effectively is the key. Teaching the new language arts standard, beginning with teaching the basics of public speaking, will teach students to be confident and poised. Given enough practice, students will be more alert to bullies and avoid them.

Teachers, depending on the type of assignment, will recognize the bullies and will give assignments more closely aligned with todayÆs problems and violence. Teachers are not trained to teach public speaking and school districts do not enforce compliance because:
1) Public speaking is not assessed or is there a test.
2) Public speaking is generally not on the report card, so why teach it?
3) School districts do not have the right materials to teach public speaking as a separate subject. The oral language is taught as part of the reading program.

The most important thing I learned I had to learn on my own and that was to communicate on a one to one basis. That one thing kept me out of a lot of trouble.
