Brief summary:
Poor Sophie has to give up a toy to her sister, then she falls over another toy, and gets no sympathy at all from her mother. So she storms out into the woods, crying and yelling, then she sits in a tree watching the ocean, which helps calm her personal storm. The anger really comes through in the illustrations, which show flames and explosions and a volcano while Sophie's anger builds, then calmer, more gentle colors and images as she gets control over her feelings. This book received a 2000 Caldecott Honor as a distinguished American picture book for children.
