Objectives:
This is a great way to keep papers and everyone organized, starting on the first day of school.
Procedure:
Before school starts, assign each student a number that you can call their zip code. The easiest way to do this is to take the class list and number down the list. Then use this number to label everything. You can start by organizing desks by drawing their number out of a hat, or starting in number order to begin the year. The student can put his or her number on every paper and assignment, making it easy to see who is finished. Place their number on the class mailboxes for easy returns. You don't have to change your pull sticks every year, just write numbers on the sticks. I also find it very helpful to have a file folder with each student's number. I file all notes that come from home, notes that go home from me, special tests, previous report cards, and any other important papers to keep handy. If you have more than one section, have each student start their number with the beginning initial of their homeroom teacher. The possibilities are endless!!
