Grade level:
Middle

Objectives:
The student will be able to list observations of a common object.

Materials needed:
One penny for every two students
Hand lens
paper
pencil

Time estimate to complete:
20-30 minutes

Procedure:
1. Tell students to close their eyes and think about a penny.
2. Elict from studnets what they see. Write their answers on the board.
3. Give each group a penny and a hand lens.
4. Tell students to take turns viewing the penny and write down everything they see on a piece of paper.
5. Discuss why observation are so important to Scientists.
