Grade level:
3-5

Objectives:
1. To introduce yourself to your students.
2. To welcome students to your class and give them an idea of what they will be doing during the year.
3. For students to share some personal information about themselves orally.
4. To learn about the students?interests and families.

Materials needed:
Before school begins, send a letter to each student welcoming them into your classroom and giving them a brief summary of some activities that they can look forward to throughout the year. For the first day of school, ask students to bring in a lunch bag filled with no more than five objects that they would like to share with the class. They might be pictures of their family, house, or something fun that they have done. They might be something that shows a hobby or free-time activity, something special about their family, an award they have won, a part of a collection, or a favorite food, music, book, etc. The teacher should also prepare a bag with items in it for presentation.

Time estimate to complete:
Sharing time approximately three minutes per student.

Procedure:
1. On the first day of school gather the class together and share the contents of the teacher? bag first to model what might be said and explained.
2. Students each present their items. Questions may be asked to spark more conversation and interest.
