Grade level:
3-5

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to organize materials.
2. Groups will be able to share materials.

Materials needed:
6 or more small coffee cans; felt/material; markers; 2
magnets per desk (round or bar); small, thin wooden shapes (from crafts
catalogue, i.e. HammettĘs); 6 folders per student

Time estimate to complete:
2, 45 minute lessons with some homework

Procedure:
1. Pass out magnets and wood pieces/glue wood pieces to magnet and decorate.
2. Decorate folders, one for each subject/finish at home.
3. Coffee cans decorated by group with felt pieces.
4. Decorated magnets hold class schedule, etc. to desk for handy reference.
5. Decorated folders for homework, etc or as portfolios.
6. Coffee cans for group rulers, compasses, markers to be shared.
7. Class ?walk-about? to see what others have done.
(display work) Have students design best use of desk for materials.
