Description of safety strategy:
Each community has it's own prevention phone number. On one side of a colorful laminated business (size) card, the school name and school logo appears. (For example, in my community, the card states "Lake Brantley High School - Home of the Patriots" and includes a picture of the school mascot).
Students like to "carry" their school mascot and colors.
On the other side of the card is a reference to W.I.S.E. (Weapons In School Eliminated) and the local community prevention phone number. Slogans, such as "Authorities Advised Can Help Save Lives" or "You need to tell, but no one needs to know" encourage students to "break" the code of silence.
Students should "carry the card" that contains the phone number to help save lives. I introduced this program at Lake Brantley H.S. years before Columbine. It works! 4 years, 3 weapons recovered, no loss of lives. In almost every instance of campus violence, someone knew of the problem, but remained silent.
At Lake Brantley H.S., being a W.I.S.E guy or girl is a "good thing."
The State of Florida recently issued a proclimation in support of the program. All costs are paid by the local business community.
It's "free" as I do not charge for it's use. Restricitions: The program cannot be commercialized.
Should you community be interested, I'd be happy to provide the information.
