The amount of each item will vary depending on the size of the trick or treater. The following amounts are to make a grown up costume:
2 cheap double sized yellow flat sheets (or die two old white ones)
2 green pillowcases
Fabric glue, fabric adhesive or a sewing machine
3 big bags of pillow stuffing
Instructions:
Fold sheet in half and cut out about 20 half moon shapes about 24 inches in length (which will give you forty pieces)
Stitch, use fabric adhesive or glue (glue will take longer since you will need to let it dry over night) fabric pieces together leaving about a four inch opening on each one.
Turn them inside out and stuff with pillow stuffing to make 20 banana shaped pillows. Sew or glue opening shut.
Cut a pointy scalloped collar shape out of one of the green pillow cases. If you cut two pieces, you can make that a pillow as well. It can close around your neck with a safety pin or stick on velcro.
Cut the other pillowcase up each side and cut a hole in the top of it big enough for your head.
Sew (or safety pin) each banana pillow to the front and back of the pillowcase. (you will wear the pillowcase like a sandwich board) Make sure to attach the bananas facing the right way so that they will look like an actual bunch of bananas. Attach the bananas in rows with four on top then three then two then one.
Wear a green or black sweat suit or leotard and tights underneath.
Other information to consider:
This costume is very simple and no one will believe that you actually made it! We borrowed (you can rent) a gorilla costume for my date and I made an extra little banana pillow for him to carry around with him. We were very cute :)
