What age group is this costume for?
Preschool and Younger

Estimated time required to make this costume:
Mere minutes

Difficulty level:
Quick and easy - no sewing required
Almost as easy - some sewing

Items you will need: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
one floral print pillowcase (tots)
one floral sheet (larger children/adults)

scissors/seam ripper

colorful sash

leis/flowers/feathers

sandals/flipflops

Instructions:
Tot version:

Lay the pillowcase flat on a table, with the open, hemmed end downward. You will be creating a Sarong. This involves gently opening a seam from what will be the "shoulder" to about the mid-point of the top, and also opening a seam in the Opposite Side (as a hole for the other arm.) If you Relax and think like a 5 year old trying to dress an oversized Barbie, (child), it will be clear to you...if not, pop the pillowcase over the kid's head, pulling it all the way down like a dress. Obviously, you want the head to pop thru and Breathe, so make an opening Topside, from side to middle. See how cool that is? You'll need another hole for one arm to hang out; go to opposite side of body/case and cut an armhole in the case from Top of case, down just far enough for a semi-loose armhole, and slip the arm thru. Ahhhh! That feels better...Tie on a sash, add leis/flowers in the hair, sandals, a spritz of Jungle Gardenia cologne, and you are ready 2 go!

Other information to consider:
Pillowcases, especially singles, can be bought second hand for a song! If you are making this for an adult, consider cuttin' up a ratty pillowcase as directed above, just so you can get a feel for what you're trying to create. Or just sing he Little Teapot song: you need an armhole for yer head n'Handle on one side, and yer Spout on the other....

This would be a cute look and a great activity for a party for young girls, outdoors in summer, indoors in winter. Serve "roasted" pigs-in-a-blanket (hot dogs) and bring Paradise home.

Probably adaptable for older kids and adults, but you'd need Sheets, vs. pillowcases, and some basic straight seams sewn by hand or machine, at shoulder and side.

White sheet: Toga!
