What age group is this costume for?
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Estimated time required to make this costume:
4 hrs
Difficulty level:
Almost as easy - some sewing
Items you will need: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
Sweatshirt or jacket with a hood (white)
Sweatpants (white)
White fur
Black fabric marker
Child safe make-up, no smear, black and white (optional)
White shoes and socks
Ribbon (for collar)
A small tag
A picture of a dalmation (optional...for getting the spots to look "just right")
Instructions:
Have a comfortable seat and get ready to spot! With the marker begin making the spots on the sweatsuit, socks and shoes.
After spots are finished on the clothes, cut two small triangles out of the white fur, these will be the ears. Spot them up as well. To make the tail, I cut two small pieces of curved fabric, I sewed them together, which made a very cute slightly curved tail, just like a dalmation puppy. Sew the ears and tail on. I got a tag out of the machine at my local Wal-Mart and had my daughter's name put on it. Or you can put the name of his/her favorite dog, etc. Slip the tag on the ribbon. When your child has the costume on, very loosly tie the ribbon around their neck (should only be done on children over 2 or 3 with complete adult supervision, if you can't watch them, take it off). If you child is old enough, you can either just put a few spots on the face and color the end of their nose or cover the whole face in white and then spot it up. And you got your puppy.
Other information to consider:
You can also get black fur and make your child's ears or tail completely black, like some of the dogs had.
I have a 2 yr old who uses the harness and leash while we are shopping, so I am taking her on the leash this year, which adds to it. As well, I am dressing as Cruella, check the Teens and up section for that one.
