Paper party hat Approximately 3 yards of orange fabric (depending on the size of your child) Green piping 1 yard of black fabric Scissors and pinking shears Orange thread Hot glue gun A sewing machine or a needle and thread Old newspapers or tissue paperChild should dress in an orange turtleneck, green pants, and green or black shoes.
Instructions:
Lay the orange fabric on the floor and fold one side over the other so that you have 2 layers (front and back of pumpkin suit.)Have your child lay down on the fabric.Draw a circle around your child's body (from the neck to just above the knees) to determine the size of the pumpkin suit. Be sure to mark the areas around the head and arms (allowing an extra inch-and-a half on each side in order to get in and out of costume easily).Next, cut the circle out, leaving an extra quarter of an inch around the outside of the circle for the sewn edge.Face right sides of the fabric together and sew a quarter of an inch seam around the circle.Remember not to sew across the areas for the arms and head! Turn fabric right-side out.Cut desired face of pumpkin (eyes, nose, mouth) out of black fabric with pinking shears and sew on to front of pumpkin suit.Next, using the hot glue gun, cover the paper party hat with orange fabric, trim the bottom with a circle of green piping, and make a loop for the tip of the hat.Finish by stuffing the pumpkin suit with crumpled up newspapers or tissue paper.
Other information to consider:
A sewing machine is helpful but you can sew this project by hand. You can also add elastic to arms and head openings for a more rounded and bunchy effect.
