Other information to consider:
Barnes and Noble has 4 books that feature face painting/makeup ideas. The one I am familiar with is "Face Painting" by the editors of Klutz Press, and with great photos by Thomas Heiser. There are 83 designs included, ranging from full face Halloween stuff to simple touches to accent costumes, and the very basic "cheek art" done for fun at parties and festivals. While the book is recommended for ages 9-12, truthfully, all ages can find something to like here. The Klutz press book, like all Klutz titles, is designed to be carried about and used, and even comes complete with a palette of paints!
Costume shops/party goods stores and e-tailers are other sources for face painting materials. Find your supplies well before the end of October. Look for face-friendly products, and a formulation that can store and be used again and again. Don't use tempera paints; word from Kids is that when they dry, they itch and flake off---yuk!
I think the Klutz book and other costume books are worth the time it takes to look 'em over, because there are so very many ideas in there to help kids who tend to wait until the Very Last Minute to decide they want to be transformed into some elaborate critter/creation! ;-)
