What age group is this costume for?
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond

Estimated time required to make this costume:
2 hours

Difficulty level:
Almost as easy - some sewing

Items you will need: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
3-5 yards "wool" fabric (neutral plaid, etc.)
1-2 yards muslin or similiar light neutral colored cloth
boots or moccasins
blue face paint (optional)
1.5-2 yards cord

Instructions:
Pleat the "wool" and sew. Leave room to pass the cord, this will secure the kilt around the waist. Pleats do not need to be even nor ironed. Leave approximately 1 yard of the fabric unpleated to drape over the shoulder.
Cut muslin long enough to go over the head and tuck into kilt in front and back. Do not sew the sides, simply cut a hole for the head to pass through and tuck the tails into the kilt. For colder areas, a neutral colored sweater can be worn underneath.
Paint face however desired.

Other information to consider:
Remember, you are recreating a costume from the 1500's, nothing fancy. The rougher the better!!
