blue sweatshirt
white sweatpants
white fabric paint
red fabric paint
blue paint to match shirt
wooden dowel from craft store
masking tape
red, white and blue face makeup

Instructions:
1. paint white stars on blue sweatshirt, hang to dry
2. paint red stripes on pants, hang to dry
3. when dry, tape dowel across shoulders to resemble pole. paint tape to match shirt.
4. paint face like flag

Other information to consider:
consider buying sweats 1 size larger than needed so kids can wear layers under costume to keep warm.
also, make sure you have a day or two to let paint completely dry.
can also take old white towel or sheet, paint red stripes on it and tie or pin at waist to give "waving" effect
