Estimated time required to make this costume:
Overnight (paint drying time)
Difficulty level:
Almost as easy - some sewing
Items you will need: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
Black tights or thermals, long sleeve shirt, pants
Black hat (optional)
White fabric paint
Thin cardboard, pencil, scissors
Reference image of Venom
Makeup: Black and white water-based face makeup for easy cleanup and less smudging
Instructions:
Using the reference image of Venom, draw the Spider emblem on the cardboard as best you can, sizing it to the chest of the costume. Place small pillow or rolled towel inside shirt to give it 'body', this will help in painting. Cut out the emblem and using the paint, quickly hit the edges of your cutout as much as you can, then press down on the shirt, trying to center as best you can. This makes for a sharp but faded image, you can then fill in the lines and 'build up' the emblem using only the fabric paint. Let dry overnight. Using black and white makeup, construct Venom's 'mask' on the childs face, large white eyes, and a big toothy white smile, the rest is black.
Other information to consider:
The black hat can complete the look, but not necessary. Black shoes/boots will also work nicely. This costume can be warm in cold weather. And makeup vs a mask for young children (3-5yrs) does not restrict eyesight or breathing.
*NOTE* This costume is mostly black so be sure to keep a good eye on your child!
