Rhea Steel - Mother of four

Description of method:
Begin as early as child shows interest in going "potty." This is easiest for stay-at-home moms. Prepare to do your training when you have one full week free from outside commitments. For those who go to church on Sundays, Monday is the best day to start.
Preparation:
1) Purchase or use an old shower curtain liner.
2) Cut it into four or six rectangles.
3) Use these to layer your child's bed. One liner, one baby blanket, one liner, one baby blanket and so forth. You can make as many layers as you wish.
Method: Begin with child in training pants. These are like underwear, but have a thick middle which absorbs more wetness. These can be purchased cheaply at WalMart. You may wish to progress to regular underwear sometime in the week if things are going well. I do suggest that you use the training pants at night though. My daughter has been potty trained for 8 months and still wears her "night-time" underwear. It is less mess when she has her occasional accident. Let your child wear underwear all week long with their regular clothes. Girls may wish to wear dresses because it is easier to use the potty while wearing a dress. Boys may wish to wear sweat pants or shorts in summer.
Points to remember:
1) Keep your child in underwear. No pull-ups!
2) Stick with this all week! Even during naps and bed-time.
3) If your child is not trained within five days, wait one month and try it again.
4) All children have different developmental stages. Some train on their own, some seem to take forever!
5) Remember that your child is unique and will train when he/she is ready.
6) I would also say though, that while each child is unique, children still need to be taught discipline. Your consistancy will teach them self-discipline at an early age.
Lastly, I would recomend using the regular potty while training. This way you won't have to train once on the little potty and then AGAIN on the big potty. Use a step for smaller children and if needed buy the small potty seat that attaches to the regular toilet seat.
Happy Training!

Recommended age for this method:
Begin when child shows interest or no later than 3 years old.

How long should it take for child to be potty trained by this method?
