Brief summary:
Told to make a Pilgrim doll for the Thanksgiving display at school, Molly, a 3rd grader who is a Jewish Russian immigrant, is embarrassed when her mother tries to help her out by creating a doll dressed as she herself was dressed before leaving Russia to seek religious freedom.

This book was the inspiration for the 1986 Academy Award winning live-action short film.

There is a sequel called "Make a Wish, Molly."
