Brief summary:
This story is about five little puppies who keep digging a hole to go under the fence to explore the world beyond. One puppy stands out cause he never stays with the others: while they may be at the top of hill, "Poky" is at the bottom of the hill with his nose to the ground sniffing cause he smells something.

Their mother, who is greatly disappointed in her puppies, scolds them for digging holes under the fences and sends them to bed without dessert. But "Poky" didn't come home 'till everyone was fast asleep and he ate all the rice pudding and crawls into bed.

This happens over and over again until the tables are turned...
