Brief summary:
The "Snowflake Man," Wilson A. Bentley, lived from 1865 to 1931, and worked for 50 years to perfect his technique of photographing snowflakes in order to capture their individual details. This book shows children how a simple Vermont farmer found a way to share the beauty of ice crystals with the whole world. He said, "Of all the forms of water the tiny six-pointed crystals of ice called snow are incomparably the most beautiful and varied." There are wood-cut illustrations handtinted with watercolor, and the book won the 1999 Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children.
