Brief summary:
In this version of the story Rapunzel, you can see why a man could actually climb a girl's hair to reach the top of a tower. Her hair is thick and wavy and braided in cool Italian Renaissance-style illustrations that look almost 3-D. The author took this story and made it newly exciting, as he did with his other retellings of Hansel and Gretel and Rumpelstiltskin.

At the end of the story there are notes explaining how, when and where the legend was created and how it evolved into the story that we enjoy today. This book won the 1998 Caldecott Medal, which is awarded annually to the most distinguished American picture book for children.
