Brief summary:
In this book, which is the second of seven volumes in The Chronicles of Narnia (beginning with The Magician's Nephew) four children have been sent from London during WWII bombings to stay in the country house of an old, eccentric professor who rarely interferes with their day-to-day exploration. One day while playing hide and seek, the youngest child, Lucy, stumbles into an old wardrobe that leads to a magical but troubled world where it is "always winter but never Christmas," because it has been enchanted by the White Witch. At first, her brothers and sister tease her about making it all up, but eventually they also discover the secret world and get entangled in a great struggle between Aslan the Great Lion, and the White Witch herself.
