Age group(s) for which this technique is helpful: Elementary School
Primarily used to improve behavior: At School
Instructions for using this technique:
Go to PCP. Explain what you think are symptoms of ADHD. Open a clear communication between PCP, parent and teacher(s). try behavior therapy, then diet alterations. If none are effective, get a prescription for Ritalin. We wasted an entire school year trying remedies that were simply not effective.
Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
My child's grades improved dramatically. Her reading improved by 2 grade levels during a single school year on Ritalin. Less classroom disruptions. It is easier to control behaviors at home, but difficult to have them follow your child to school. Do NOT be affraid to try Ritalin. Discuss a drug & behavior modification program w/ your PCP, including a time frame to have your child tapered off the drug.
