Instructions for using this technique:
KEEP A CHART OF THE THINGS YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO DO. SUCH AS, CLEAN ROOM, DO HOMEWORK, ETC. EACH TIME THE CHILD DOES WHAT HE/SHE IS TOLD, PUT A CHECK BY THE ITEM DONE. AT THE END OF THE WEEK WHEN YOU TALLY UP THE CHECKS, IF ALL ITEMS ARE CHECKED, LET THE CHILD PICK OUT SOMETHING HE/SHE WOULD LIKE TO DO. DEPENDING ON THE FINANCES, IT COULD BE ANYTHING YOU MAKE IT, SUCH AS GOING TO THE PARK OR GOING TO EAT AT THE CHILD'S FAVORITE RESTURANT. CUT SOME PAPER UP AND THEN PUT DIFFERENT THINGS ON THEM THAT YOU AND THE CHILD DECIDE ON. THEN LET THE CHILD DRAW A PAPER FROM A HAT. THIS ALSO HELPS IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD, AS WHATEVER IS PIKCED, THE WHOLE FAMILY DOES IT TOGETHER. AND FOR REPORT CARDS, YOU CAN CHOOSE 3 VERY SPECIAL THINGS TO DO. IF YOU RECIEVE GOOD GRADES, WHICH WOULD BE THE BEST THE CHILD IS DOING, LET HIM/HER DRAW FROM THE HAT! IT WORKS GREAT! HAVE FUN WITH IT!
Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
DON'T ADD MORE TO THE LIST THAN YOUR CHILD CAN HANDLE EACH DAY. BE SURE THAT EVERYTHING YOU ADD IS AGE APPROPRIATE. IF HE/SHE DOESN'T COMPLETE EVERYTHING ON THE LIST, DON'T DWELL ON IT. IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR THE CHILD TO GET USED TO IT. BUT USUALLY, AFTER THE FIRST FUN TRIP, THEY ARE WILLING AND READY TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO GO ON ANOTHER.
