Both At Home and At School

Instructions for using this technique:
1) Locate and/or nuture an advocate for your child at his/her school. It can be a counselor, a teacher, or the principal.
2) Let your child know that you are doing this.
3) Keep in weekly contact with this advocate, sharing information on how your child is doing, both behaviorally and academically.
4) Schedule regular conferences between you, the advocate, and the child.
5) Let your child know that he/she can also have "alone time" with the advocate.
6) Share positives with the advocate as well.

Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
Does your child have trust issues that may preclude a third party involved?

Find out if your school system already has a program such as this in place.
