Age group(s) for which this technique is helpful:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond

Primarily used to improve behavior:
Both At Home and At School

Instructions for using this technique:
Keep it Simple, Stupid. This may seem bold, but I got your attention. Remember that someone with ADHD may require simple activities and instructions when a job is to be completed. For those that live and/or work with people with ADHD, you must keep your help simple as well. ADHD can feed off of others that are 'distracted'. Plan several different activities as distractions when attempting to complete an assingment, and make sure that everyone knows that there has been a transition and they have had time to make that transition. Emphasize the fact that the person with ADHD is responsible for their actions, so thay can not blame their meds or ADHD. Do not rely on one treatment, there is no cure-all.

Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
ADHD can run in the family, so the adults may be unintentionally feeding the behavior. Remember that ADHD has many positive factors and if these are not emphasized, then you will see why depression is common with in the ADHD community.
