Age group(s) for which this technique is helpful:
Middle School
Instructions for using this technique:
Work with school to develope "the week ahead plan" for tests, quizzes and lenghty assignments. I get a list of all the week before they're due, especially tests, so we can prepare. Teaching organization, this eliminates stress so child can retain information. And there are no surprises! My daughter has gone from c- to a's and b's and taken on the responsibility to willingly work with me to develop study cards. She has been able to identify her style of learning and the possitive result of hard work. She takes no meds. for adhd and knows memory and stress of test taking was difficult for her. Her attention level is better during the preparing for tests because we start the week ahead and do a little at a time, adding more each night (15 minutes or so). Her test grades have proved the method works for her and she is as proud as can be...after years of c's, d's and f's on tests! Her self-esteem has improved! She is getting a's and b's.
Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
Consult with school to provide information. Some teachers have given me a hard time providing it, however, I have it written in her iep!
