Age group(s) for which this technique is helpful:
Middle School
High School & Beyond
Primarily used to improve behavior:
Both At Home and At School
Instructions for using this technique:
Get an extra large three ring binder, and four loose leaf pocket files for each subject in school. Put a different colored tab for each subject on the edge of the first folder. Under each subject, for each of the four pockets, print TO DO on the first pocket of each subject, print TO TURN IN on the next pocket folder, print TO KEEP (for later reference) on the next pocket folder, and on the fourth pocket folder print TO TAKE HOME. A small pencil pouch for a three ring binder can also be added to the three ring binders so the student also has writing utensils handy. The three ring binder is carried to all courses of study, and home so all papers are present. The student does have to remember which books to take home.
Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
I have adult ADHD, and I had it as a child, but no one was diagnosed with anything way back then, so I invented this system that I used from junior high through graduate school, and I did very well in my studies. I have also made these three ring binders for my neices and nephews, and other children in my church school, and every child so far has benefitted from this technique. I also have Tourette Syndrome and OCD and this system worked like a charm for me. I hope it works for you as well.
