Instructions for using this technique:
Very interesting suggestions that will open your eyes and minds to the possibility that there is nothing "wrong" with our children. This work suggests that you are not alone and our children are not at all disabled but are trying to fit into a system that is not suited for their learning styles and strengthes.
Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
Trust your instincts. No one knows your children better than you. The well meaning "professionals" do have to whole heartedly believe that our children are ADHD and that they are disabled. This is the premis on which they have based their professional career. They mean no harm.
Gather information and be informed but know there are two sides to the arguement of learning disabilities. But limit exposing children to those that are suggesting that they are broken and are eager to attach a label of disabled. Every person is unique (our finger prints and DNA prove this) and we should not tolerate a label that says we are disabled. Each individual grows and developes at different rates. This goes for every area of life including reading and self control. It is hard work but I have a husband and two sons that would certainly be labeled by the professionals as Dyslexic and possibly ADHD. We are having much success in home schooling and just allowing them to develope at their own rate. By the way, the professionals told my husband he would never graduate from high school. He graduated high school, completed three years of college and has owned two successful businesses. Not bad for a Dyslexic person with a so called "disability". We firmly believe there is no such thing.
