Age group(s) for which this technique is helpful:
Elementary School
Middle School

Primarily used to improve behavior:
Both At Home and At School

Instructions for using this technique:
Let your child pick an appropriate earned object for positive behavior. This often enables them to pull back from the reactive and impulsive behavior by thinking about something very important to them and acting accordingly. For example, a small toy, or visit to a park can be earned after three consecutive days of non-explosive attentive behavior. Again, make the reward appropriate to your child's level of control.

Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
Be sure the child has complete understanding of the "deal". Put the rules in writing and use a chart for tracking so they can keep track of successes without having to ask for validation.
