Age group(s) for which this technique is helpful: Preschool and Younger Elementary School Middle School High School & Beyond
Primarily used to improve behavior: At Home
Instructions for using this technique:
We have found that restricting all sugars, even natural fruit sugar as well as caffeine, has brought the ADHD under control where we were able to discontinue medication. Any juice must have less than 22 grams of sugar per serving. This may mean watering down apple juice or decreasing the serving size. Healthy sweet treat replacements include a slice of angel food cake topped with bananas and cool whip. Candy servings are given in the snack size packages bought more around Halloween time. 3 square meals and one healthy snack are standard. Chips are restricted to lunch. Enlisting the child's help in reading sugar grams and picking out healthy alternatives has given this child the feeling that she has some control in the matter and is not just following 'orders'. In one year we have been able to discontinue medication and she has put on 10 lbs. and grown 3 inches taller. This is the largest growth spurt since infancy. Please check with your pediatrician for nutritional guidelines first.
Other information parents should consider before using this technique:
Please check with your pediatrician for nutritional guidelines. This method works well with the 123 Magic method as the child is less stimulated before behavioral changes take place.
