Brief summary:
This description refers to the book under its original title: The Edison Trait.
This wonderful book is about that 1 child out of 5 who, like the inventor, Thomas Alva Edison, is highly intelligent, has a wonderful imagination, free spirited, and drives everyone around them crazy. The author divides these types of children into 3 categories: Dreamers, Discovers, and Dynamos. These children are divergent thinkers, that is, they have the ability to think on many levels at the same time, and not merely the linear type of thinking which dominates the American method of education. An Edison-trait child has the following qualities: (1) Openness to multiple sights, sounds and thoughts. (2) A daring or wandering imagination. (3)A global perspective. (4) Creative urges or compelling attraction for new ideas. (5) Intense focus on his own pursuits and interests. Of course, these traits can be easily seen as negative. For example, (1) Is easily distracted. (2) Lives in a state of disorganiztion. (3) Neglects important detail. (4) Doesn't follow things through to completion. (5) Won't obey or comply. I found this book extremely helpful in understanding my son. If you too have such a child, you will find this book to be one of the few out there that can actually assist you in understanding your child, and, as a result, be a better parent to him/her.
