Brief summary:
As a parent and educator, I have to say this is one of the best books I have seen on helping kids of all ages learn to accept and acknowledge feelings, to think first and then act when dealing with conflict. It defines the term "difficult child" - gives checklist to reconfirm, and then lists incredible strategies to work with your child for changing or improving that behavior. This book also gives lists of what not to do, gives practical problem solving tips, and relates actual stories that the author has experienced. Dealing with adolescents is covered very well and the language the author uses is very down-to-earth and in layman terms that parents can understand. I have a very angry 13 year old son who is running into problems during these "Jr.High" years with bullies at school, self-esteem, and defusing his anger. I have applied these strategies and am happy to say that they really do work!! It's not an easy cure-all but a really practical proven guide to keep any parent or professional energized and positive. If you have reached a point where you feel like throwing your hands up and screaming or just suffering from plain and simple "burn-out" then you MUST read this
truly helpful book. It has changed not only my son's life, but mine and our entire family.
