These words are commonly heard in times of crisis. And they sometimes never get past the stage of being just Words,, because folks are too embarrassed to be specific in telling of their needs.
So, this is just the observation that when people make this offer, if you know and trust them, Let Them Help! Get back to them, on a better day, perhaps, with specifics.
And if you are trying to help someone who is hurting, look at how their ordinary days were spent, see how the present difficulty shakes that up, visualize what you might to to alleviate such specific needs, and renew your offer.
It's in the quiet days that follow a tragedy that grim reality and Loneliness can creep in. That is precisely the time to reach out to one another!
