Description of reading game:
Scrabble is a word game played on a board. Each player gets 7 tiles, each with a letter on it. The first player makes a word on the board. For every turn after that, each player must build on by making a new word connected to a word already on the board.

What reading skill(s) does this game use or develop in children?
This game is great for learning phonics and word play. For example, if a player has the two letters S-H, she knows that will be a good ending or beginning. If he has only one vowel, he tries to build around that. If there is a lot of space around an E on the board, players try to build a word that ends in E. It teaches strategizing!

Other comments or suggestions:
For very young children, it would be great to play in teams with adults.
