What type of fear does this advice address?
Fear of injury, illness, or death
Other fears

Please describe your child's fear and how it is manifested:
My oldest child (9 yrs) is scared of going to the doctors and terrified of needles too. If she has to go to the doctor for something, she gets really anxious and if she experiences any discomfort while there such as having to get a needle, she freaks, I mean freaks!

How did/are you help(ing) your child learn to overcome this fear?
I'm not sure how to help her actually. The only I've been able to think of is to try and explain to her when she's not filled with her fear why we have to go to see doctors, get needles, etc. I explain to her that the alternative is we will likely get more sick and sometimes we just have to take the discomfort to avoid more.

Please add any additional comments or suggestions:
I'm looking for suggestions on this one. Other parents must have children who feel anxiety and fear about being "hurt" at the doctor's office.

This advice is most appropriate for children in...
Elementary School
