What type of fear does this advice address? Fear of injury, illness, or death
Please describe your child's fear and how it is manifested:
My 9 year old was ill with food poisoning or stomach virus and was embarrassed because she threw up in front of a friend. The friend was not very empathic! She acted immaturely and now my daughter is irrationally afraid of doing something similar again. She won't eat in public places and gets nauseous and shaky for no apparent reason.
How did/are you help(ing) your child learn to overcome this fear?
She is currently undergoing biofeedback therapy which any behavioral psychologist can perform. She has learned to control her breathing and use meditation techniques (visualization for relaxation) to stop her anxiety before it gets out of control and makes her physically ill. She is having great success- her first visit she learned to slow her pulse rate and it empowered her to see that she had control over her body in that way.
Please add any additional comments or suggestions:
I would recommend this therapy for any childhood fears- especially those which the child cannot name and feels helpless about.
