What type of fear does this advice address?
Fear of imaginary things
Fear of animals or insects
Fear of natural phenomenon (lightning, the dark)

Please describe your child's fear and how it is manifested:
My grandson had terrible nightmares from early on in his childhood. This started even earlier than I had imagined. I didn't know an infant could have what his doctor called, "Night Terrors".

How did/are you help(ing) your child learn to overcome this fear?
We learned when he was old enought to say, "They are getting me" that he was actually afraid of something, then he would huddle in the corner of his crib.

Please add any additional comments or suggestions:
I had gone out and bought (cool sheets) and didn't think anything about it. You know classic winnie the poo sheets, matching comforter?
When the lights were out and he was sleepy/half awake the characters came to life in his mind. We would run in there as he was screaming, "they're getting me!" and he was huddled in the corner of the crib!
Once I covered the sheet he would lay down and sleep!
I went out and bought plain white crib sheets and we never had another problem.
Now he is 7 Years old and is over that part of his fears but as an infant thoses shadows cause the crib sheets to be a very scary thing.
I hope this helps others.

This advice is most appropriate for children in...
Preschool and Younger
