3 Star Suggestion Rating

What type of fear does this advice address?
Fear of imaginary things

Please describe your child's fear and how it is manifested:
My child's fear is of evil villains (like in Spiderman particularly). She thinks the Green Goblin (bad guy) is "too real" and that the guy could come to her house and kill her or something.

How did/are you help(ing) your child learn to overcome this fear?
I am helping her overcome this fear by reminding her that it's just a movie and that the scary stuff in movies is not real and she is safe from all the bad stuff that really happens (like 9/11).

Please add any additional comments or suggestions:
It would also be helpful to shelter younger children from non-cartoon movies with evil bad guys because many cannot tell reality from fiction (especially if it is, like my daughter said, "too real").

This advice is most appropriate for children in...
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
