Describe your Halloween celebration idea:
Among my friends, we are the only ones who live in a town where "trick or treating" time in ON Halloween, AND at night (6p-8p) - So our friends gather at our house on the blessed evening, and HELP us scare the little ones! Most "professionals" would call it a "Yard Haunt". A monk starts off the tour with a story about the house - how it is "haunted" - and then a "special assignment" is given, such as "Give this key to the woman in the house, so she can escape" (We collect old junk keys for this part". Along the path are some witches stirring a cauldron, surrounded by benches made of logs, where the little ones can "sit for a spell" - as the witches chant poems of Halloween. There are about 5 "stations" for the little ones to visit - and at each "station", they get a gift, a treat or a trick! It is so much fun - and parents seem to appreciate it, as some have said "they want to go to a real haunted house, but they aren't old enough yet - this was perfect!" One mom said, the following year, "They wanted to go to the Haunted House...to visit the witches..."No Mom! The one here in town! They are REAL"! hehe!
What steps should be taken to organize this celebration?
Invite friends to join you - my friends bring their leftover candy, since their "Trick or Treat" is "scheduled" (I still don't understand that!) for earlier than Halloween night...And one friend in particular, is always bringing something to add to my decorations! Everyone also brings a scary snack, so afterwards, we can have a party!
Additional comments:
Start small! I have gradually added to my "display" year after year...most purchases are on "Clearance" - and there are lots of websites where you can find ways of making COOL decorations from TRASH / or at least CHEAP materials.
My favorite decor? Skip the fogger... I go with an old cooler and dry ice, and a small clip on fan! hehe!
