Description of this type of school/schooling method:
The obvious difference in a boarding school is that your child is away from home during the academic year. This allows your child to develop a sense of independence. Students at boarding schools are taught to think for themselves, budget their time, learn disciplined study habits and to get along with others. Students take advanced courses in preparation for college.

Advantages:
Community living

Staff support around the clock

Advanced course work

High rate of college acceptance

Organized sports and extra curricular activities Students have better study habits

Students think for themselves

Challenges:
Tuition

Does your child have the personality type that can be away from home?

You will miss the opportunity to interact with your child on a daily basis

Tuition/Costs:
$10,000/year or more

Other comments regarding tuition/costs:
Boarding schools tend to be the most expensive of all private schools, averaging anywhere from $12,000 and higher (keep in mind that this is an average-if you send your child to a school in the North East for example, you could pay considerably more).
